Goal of Ministry
Our goal is to be a communicator and contributor to the vital mission work of ELCA World Hunger.
What is ELCA World Hunger
Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) World Hunger has addressed the root causes of hunger and poverty through a comprehensive program of relief, development, education and advocacy. More than 90 percent of each gift provides direct support for the church’s hunger ministry.
St. Paul’s World Hunger Events
Lenten World Hunger Appeal runs during the 40 days of Lent. Coin boxes, videos, short plays, newsletter articles, and some unique creative ideas have been helpful in promoting the Lenten World Hunger Appeal.
The Souper Bowl of Caring Program is held the Sunday before the Super Bowl with the help of our youth. Cans of soup or monetary donations are collected in a fun “vote for your favorite team” format.
Lutheran Malaria Initiative is usually highlighted during the summer months. Malaria kills more than 1 million people per year and is easily prevented with the use of bed nets.
We are reminded of ELCA Good Gifts during the months before Christmas. This program lifts up 65 gift ideas that make a significant impact on the mission and ministries of God’s church while giving a gift to a special person.
Who Volunteers?
Those who volunteer come together with a common passion to end poverty and hunger.
Volunteers create ideas to help promote World Hunger projects to the congregation. Some volunteers might have gifts to expand these ideas into something concrete. Others might do something as helpful as counting change.
