Goal of Ministry
Our purpose is to supply some of the needs to those living in this neighborhood by bringing food, clothing, and small appliances to their pantry. We also help serve meals weekly and host an annual special supper at their Pasta and Soup Kitchen.
Location
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is located at 643 W. 17th Street, Erie, PA 16502. Phone: 452-3518. The church is located across from Erie’s largest homeless shelter, Community Shelter Services.
When
Times for the meals are :
Tuesdays, 5:15-6:45
Wednesdays noon-12:45
Saturdays noon-12:45
Volunteers are asked to come about an earlier, unless the volunteer is helping with meal preparation, in which case, an earlier time would be needed.
St. Paul’s turn for the “Last Thursday of the Month Supper” usually happens in the spring or early summer. Volunteers are asked to come at 4:00 with supper served at 5:00.
Volunteer Time Involved
Time involved is about 2 hours per meal for most volunteers. Some helpers volunteer to bake desserts, so this would involve some extra time at home. The coordinator’s time varies, but there is perhaps two or three hours a month in addition to any meals they wish to serve.
Food of the Week
Food of the Week is our collection for food, clothing and small appliances for Holy Trinity. St. Paul’s coordinator advertises Food of the Week monthly in St. Paul’s Newsletter and is highlighted in St. Paul’s weekly email. Food of the Week varies week to week according to the needs of the kitchen. The coordinator picks up Food of the Week at St. Paul’s and makes weekly deliveries.
Who Volunteers?
Volunteers from Holy Trinity, St. Paul’s and various other churches help Holy Trinity’s Pasta and Soup Kitchen because they feel called by Christ to serve the poor.
