Goal of Ministry
This ministry is to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ to caring for our neighbors by eliminating poverty housing and homelessness. Annually, over 300 volunteers from Erie are congregations build a home during 3 weeks in June.
Ways to Serve
Volunteers are needed for the house construction. Many volunteers come with no previous experience and they enjoy learning a new skill and meeting new people. Volunteers are also needed to prepare a lunch on one of the construction days. Donations are needed for the food and people are also needed for the food preparation. Sign-up sheets will be in the narthex for building volunteers and lunch volunteers.
When
The Habitat house begins the first week in June and continues for 3 weeks. They do not work on Sunday. There is a celebration at the conclusion of the project where the keys are presented to the new homeowners.
Volunteer Time Involved
A construction volunteer can chose any day available on the sign-up sheet. They arrive at 7:30 a.m. and stay until 4:00 p.m. Preparation for the lunch begins at 9:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s. The food is transported to the work-site and lunch is served at noon.
